Analysis
Living Between Land and Sea
The Uruguay Pavilion reflects on a striking fact: over half of Uruguay’s territory lies in its maritime waters. The exhibition uses this premise to explore how water shapes culture, economy, and identity, while also confronting global environmental challenges.
Framing our era as the “Hydrocene,” the pavilion argues that how humanity manages water will determine our future. Through installations addressing rain, waves, wind, and sunlight, the exhibition reveals both the forces of nature and the opportunities they offer for design. It calls for a decisive shift in architecture: to conserve, adapt, and build with water as a unifying element that redefines how we inhabit space.
